THAT which is old is new once again.
Darwin's oldest venue will play host to a new evening of entertainment that has its debut today.
Called the Blue Bar, the venue will operate in the courtyard at Brown's Mart on Fridays, featuring live original music and offering a more calm environment for people who want to wind down after a week's work but don't want to fight the happy hour hustle and bustle to get to the bar.
It is a resurrection of sorts for the Cantina Roja idea, which did tapas and drinks to live music at the same venue in 2008.
Now the red bar has given way to the Blue Bar and first up on the bill is prolific Darwin singer-songwriter Mark Hilton.
He's no stranger to feeling blue, but says his songs have become a lot more positive since he moved to the friendly, sweaty Top End.
"I get the blues all the time, why do you think I'm a musician?" Hilton said. "(But) since I've moved to Darwin there's been a distinct move away from the morbid ballad - I've got more up-tempo ones."
Hilton said the intimate environment outdoors at Brown's Mart is ideal for a songwriter - and public servants will have time to get down for the 4.30pm start.
"That does allow them nine minutes to get down there," he said.
Blue Bar is on from 4.30pm Fridays in the Brown's Mart courtyard, starting today. Entry free.
